Dual Language Immersion (DLI)
For families with children entering Kindergarten, our district offers a DLI program (target language, Spanish) at Soquel Elementary School. Information about the program and enrollment steps can be found on our DLI website. At the time of registration, if you are interested in having your child be considered for this program, you will find a "DLI Interest" box you can check during registration.
Intradistrict Transfers
Under certain circumstances, we offer the opportunity for students to attend another school in our district other than their home school. Intradistrict Transfers are governed by our district’s Board Policy 5116.1. You must first register at your home school and then apply for an Intradistrict Transfer. Requests will only be approved based on space availability at the school requested in our district. Priority will be granted to requests made specifically for the Santa Cruz Gardens Elementary Science and Gardening Education (SAGE) Program.
Interdistrict Transfers Into the District
Subject: Update on Interdistrict Transfers for the 2026–27 School Year
Dear SUESD Families and Staff,
At its April 1, 2026, meeting, the Soquel Union Elementary School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved an important update regarding interdistrict transfers (IDTs) for the 2026–27 school year.
SUESD has long welcomed students from outside our district boundaries, and we are proud to serve more than 200 interdistrict transfer students across our schools. This decision reflects careful planning to ensure the long-term financial stability of our district while continuing to provide high-quality educational programs for all students.
What is changing for 2026–27:
Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, the district will limit the number of incoming interdistrict transfers.
What is not changing:
• Current IDT students will not be affected. All students currently enrolled through an interdistrict transfer may continue attending SUESD schools.
• Existing commitments to families remain in place.
Only students meeting the following exceptions will be considered to have a NEW IDT Request for 2026-27 approved.
• Children of SUESD staff
• Students with siblings currently enrolled in SUESD
• Students enrolling in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program who are Spanish speakers
• Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students from Loma Prieta JUSD (per existing agreement for 2026–27)
• Mountain Elementary School District students transitioning from 6th grade at Mountain Elementary to 7th grade at New Brighton Middle School
This approach allows SUESD to balance enrollment thoughtfully while maintaining key programs and supporting our school community.
We understand that interdistrict transfers are important to many families, and we remain committed to transparency as we monitor enrollment and funding conditions in the coming years.
For more information about enrollment and interdistrict transfer policies, please visit our district website or contact the district office.
Sincerely,
Scott Turnbull

Qué no cambia:
Atentamente,
Scott Turnbull
